Prepare for a "Wet Landing" (Departure):
Just like arriving, departing from Drake Bay usually involves a "wet landing." You'll walk out into the water (calf-to-knee deep) to board the boat from the beach.
Wear sandals, water shoes, or flip-flops, and shorts or roll up your pants. Your luggage will be safely loaded by the boat crew.
Head to the Main Beach/Departure Point:
Our boat shuttle, operated by La Perla del Sur, departs from the main beach area in Drake Bay. This is typically the same spot where you were dropped off upon arrival. Ask your hotel if you're unsure of the exact location.
Confirm Your Departure Time:
Our boat departs every day from Drake Bay to Sierpe at 7:30 AM and 2:30 PM.
It's advisable to arrive at the departure point at least 20-30 minutes before your scheduled departure time to allow for check-in and luggage loading.
Enjoy the Scenic Journey Back:
The boat ride typically takes around 1 to 1.5 hours.
You'll first cruise along the Pacific coast, offering final views of the pristine beaches and lush coastline.
Then, the boat will enter the Sierpe River, taking you back through the fascinating mangrove channels, a last chance for some wildlife spotting!
Arrival in Sierpe:
The boat will arrive at the main dock area in Sierpe (often near Restaurant Las Vegas or Hotel Oleaje Sereno).
From here, you can easily access pre-arranged taxis, private shuttles, or connect to public buses for your onward journey to destinations like Palmar Norte, Quepos, Manuel Antonio, or San José. If you left a car, the parking lots are usually very close to the dock.
